I have no problem accessing advanced search--though I admit I still haven't upgraded from 4.8.2.

Yeah, all of my video scenes are like that (other than ones that I've recreated). My hover preview animations seem to have disappeared, as well. No screen capture necessary--my problem seems to stem from G:\new containing sub-folders. No problem, though--I can just move videos from the root directory to their own sub-folder (G:\new\unsorted), which is a quick and easy fix. Thanks for helping me diagnose the issue.

Well, when I click on "new" from the folder tree, it lists all contents of the folder (including sub-folders, of which there are many--I'm slow to categorize my new videos...), whereas from the main window in category view, I believe it only lists the videos in the root but not sub-folders...
